在艾德·希兰18岁时，参加了一个服务于一个接纳无家可归的人的收容所的工作，他在那里经常听到一些悲惨的遭遇。一天当他工作回到家中，他的脑海里有了这首歌的灵感，在他那天晚上反覆写词之后，他决定用黑暗的色调去描绘这一首歌，这首歌里的“她”正是这首歌描绘的团队中的一员，藉助“她”去描绘自己的所想所感。
