这首歌最初本是P!nk为自己的专辑《Funhouse》而写的，本计画收录在专辑里面，但因种种原因最终未被收录。歌曲于2009年的9月至10月在美国纽约、洛杉矶和瑞典斯德哥尔摩三个城市完成录製。2009年11月18日，亚当通过官方网站宣布他专辑的第二首歌名为《Whataya Want From Me》。之后，《Whataya Want From Me》替代《For Your Entertainment》成为首支单曲。
