《Starships》由妮琪·米娜和创作人Red One、卡尔·法尔克和Rami Yacoub创作，由韦恩·赫克托耳和Bilal进行额外修改。2011年，《Starships》原定由瑞士男歌手Mohombi演唱，但是当妮琪·米娜听到该歌曲的演示版的时候，向Mohombi索要了该歌曲，将其歌词修改得更符合她的音乐风格，并在洛杉矶的康威录音室录製了妮琪·米娜的人声部分，由特雷沃·穆兹监製，其混音製作过程用时一天，录製过程用时两天。
